PhysE Ltd undertakes the analysis, interpretation and reporting of winds, waves and currents for the offshore oil and gas industry.
The company employs consultants in Banchory, Aberdeen.
A Metocean advisor must be mathematically adept, able to write good technical documents and, above all, be of a personable nature and thus able to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients. They must also be able to demonstrate fluency in the use of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Duties include data processing, quality control, analysis and interpretation of meteorological and oceanographic data. The work is office based and computer intensive.
When recruiting, PhysE invites applications from all those who have the appropriate skills and interests – you do not have to be a meteorologist or oceanographer, but you must be able to use the tools we use so that you can do the job, and you must find these subjects interesting or you will not enjoy the work!
During a PhysE interview candidates will be asked to work through a number of pre-set tasks. These tasks will exercise the candidate’s abilities with respect to
- Microsoft Office applications
- Mathematics and Statistics
- Ability to write reports
- Level of interest in meteorology and oceanography
- Ability to perform under pressure and think on their feet
- Performance when giving presentations
Applicants should hold a good degree in Oceanography or related subjects. Individuals with a degree in Physics or Mathematics would also be considered. Postgraduate experience is not essential but would be considered if appropriate.
